This painting is based on a particular hexagram I had thrown in the I Ching, the Chinese Book of Changes, an ancient book of wisdom. The hexagram - Biting Through - talks about the truth of the matter. It says that for harmony we need to have personal relationships with "defined guidelines, reasonable expectations, reciprocal considerations and clear plans for the future". For me this reflected my own journey and our journey as a species.
Taoism has been a major influence on my life through the I Ching and tai chi.
In this painting I have pictured Lao Tzu, the father of Taoism. I have 'borrowed' the landscape from the telly.
