I was inspired to paint this because I have a beautiful statue of the Buddha in my home in London. It's actually a loan from my brother, who bought it in Thailand I think. Anyway I was missing it, here in France, and then I thought well I could paint it. It was like a brief interlude in my work, pure pleasure, a calm space.
