This painting is part of a series called ‘Unfolding Future’, in which I was exploring the ideas of trust and guilt. I began with an I Ching hexagram ‘Work on what has been spoiled’ and decided to start with photographs of my children when they were little.
The photo in this one was a friend with my youngest son. I lost the faces and brought them back to try and find that delicate point where you can see a face or a person but not initially
This painting was part of a series looking at time and how past events laid the foundation for the future which is now. I was exploring how my life as a mother, and the relationships I had with my children, was filled with ambiguity about my roles as mother and as artist.
