Deciding to Change
Acrylic on canvas, 100 x 100 cm. Framed. Shipping included in the UK.
This painting is part of a series called ‘Unfolding Future’, in which I was exploring the ideas of trust and guilt. I began with an I Ching hexagram ‘Work on what has been spoiled’ and decided to start with photographs of my children when they were little.
This painting had a photo of two of my children when they were younger, as well as a couple of other photos - the flowers and a cityscape. I wanted to meld all the different aspects together starting with the photos but adding blocks of colour and pattern and more painterly marks. I see all the ‘aspects’ as of equal value and want to create a harmonic feel to the painting as a whole. I included the theme of guilt and trust, I thought the kids looked as if something had happened and they were fed up. That led me to thinking how we can decide to change in a moment, often in response to what is going on around us.
