The fundamental truth is written on the painting lower left hand side, and is " that we are ultimately bound by, and reliant upon, the finite natural world about us". This film impacted me, it's a serious issue that we are all grappling with. I want my work to express something meaningful. This painting began with the idea of the river of life, the river was taken from a tv programme. I wanted the painting to have some hopeful possibility which I think is expressed in the upper right hand corner. This is my contribution to the dialogue about climate change. This painting was actually the first of this series, it began with the metal element which to me represented the time we are in (were in when I began) with the pandemic. As usual I start with no idea where the painting will lead. The buildings were an image taken from tv, the water emerged with the use of stencils, slowly the picture builds itself, slowly the images coalesce around an idea. Go deeper came to me through my meditation practice and aha, it starts to make sense. I read Memories, Dreams and Recollections by Carl Jung a very long time ago. I am by no means an academic or analyst/analysee but I can see how Jungs views have informed my whole life. This painting started with a landscape taken from a television series I had been watching, inspiration comes from all areas fo my life. I love using stencils and words. ‘Proactive. Change the rules’ - ROAR refers to a particular meditation - recognize, observe, accept and release. Candace Pert wrote the book 'Molecules of Emotion', another influential book on my work and my life. She is the mother of psychoneuroimmunology. Her work heralded a change of thinking from the old model to quantum model this really interests me. Change we’ve been going through really since the sixties, which represented a big shift in our attitudes and thinking. mirrored in technological advances and scientific understanding. We know now the connection between the body and mind, and the power of the mind. We still don’t know everything about how we work . Shipping costs included in the UK This painting is based on a particular hexagram I had thrown in the I Ching, the Chinese Book of Changes, an ancient book of wisdom. The hexagram - Biting Through - talks about the truth of the matter. It says that for harmony we need to have personal relationships with "defined guidelines, reasonable expectations, reciprocal considerations and clear plans for the future". For me this reflected my own journey and our journey as a species. Taoism has been a major influence on my life through the I Ching and tai chi. In this painting I have pictured Lao Tzu, the father of Taoism. I have 'borrowed' the landscape from the telly. Please contact me if you would like to pay in instalments. #8108

I started this painting with thoughts about how our human needs are met, and how this relates to the health of our digestive systems. I had been reading a book about addictions, I believe all addictions are our attempt at getting our needs met. Around this time I stumbled across Robert McFarlane. In lockdown, and in quarantine I was watching television and saw the film Mountain which was totally inspiring. So then I listened to him on Youtube. Deepak Chopra is a motivational speaker and doctor. He wrote the book 'Quantum Healing' which was one of the first books I read about the paradigm shift going on in healing. and in other areas. He has been very influential in my work as a healer, in my thinking and my ideas. I wanted this painting to reflect the feeling of outer and inner space I had experienced in the meditations, and although it is not obviously a portrait it did begin with an image of Deepak Chopra.
